Apple Crates and Porcelain Plates
“If it’s between you or me, I choose me.”
Ruby Pearl is a jazz piano player at her boyfriend Charlie’s bar. After eight years of the same songs, the same routine, the same people, she’s gotten bored. Until one day, Cooper’s gets raided for illegally selling alcohol, and she finds out Charlie hasn’t been completely honest with her.
She leads the charge to bring Cooper’s back to the establishment it used to be, sans the alcohol. She hires new performers, giving her a chance to get out from the piano and run the show.
On opening night, a man comes with a peacock feather in his hat, demanding to speak to Charlie. Gunshots ring out in the alley, and when they look, Charlie is missing.
With the help of Billy, the bartender, she takes control of her life and learns the truth about her Mafia ties.
Apple Crates and Porcelain Plates is a historical romance set in 1926 Harlem, packed with feminine rage, cinnamon roll sidekicks, and a love triangle between the man who’s been her constant since she left her abusive mother’s home and the big, brooding son of the most powerful Mafia family in New England.
