The Wedding Date
The Wedding Date follows Suze, a recent law school graduate. Her dating history has been… spotted, so when her mom, Nancy, asks her for the nth time if she’s dating, she lies, using her coworker, Nixon, as the fictional boyfriend.
Her lie is threatened with her sister’s impending nuptials, when Nancy demands she bring Nixon to Los Angeles as her plus one.
Nixon plays bass in a hair metal band and suggests they pretend to be a couple. In exchange for his act as the perfect boyfriend, he gets access to her dad’s client, Billy Boone, the hottest music producer.
From the time they get on the plane, she realizes she’s in trouble when he turns his rockstar charm on her, enchants her friends and family, and makes her believe there might be truth to their fake dating agreement. Over the weeklong wedding festivities, their friendship heats up, but she still refuses to believe the act could be real, despite getting a crash course in ‘the lifestyle’.
Formerly released as The Rockstar at the Reception, The Wedding Date is set in 1987 Los Angeles and is filled to the brim with references, perfect for those nostalgic for a time when things were brighter, houses were beige-er, and hair was teased and permed as big as possible.
Common tropes for The Wedding Date include one bed, friends to lovers and fake dating.
